In From the Cold

Yeah.  Like this.
It was a lot like the Middle Ages.
Without Hun invasions, Black Plagues, or witch-burnings.
You may have wondered where I've been.

Well, for the past four days I've been in the dark and cold.  The only entertainment Mrs. Penwasser and I had was playing "Guess Which Food Has Spoiled."  The joke was on us, though-it ALL spoiled.

Anyway, now that the power is back on, I can take a shower (my funk gave the spoiled food a run for its money).  It may take me a couple days to write something.  I'll be busy cleaning, restocking our food, and replacing the water in the hot tub (hey, I had to flush with something!).

Above all, my heart goes out to those folks who suffered REAL tragedy due to Sandy.  My week was a picnic compared to theirs!

I am truly one of the lucky ones.

See you in a couple days.
love,
Al
Oh, by the way, I have something on delayed post for tomorrow.  I wrote it last Saturday.  Ain't that the berries?

  1. Glad all is good in your nook, at least with your funk you could have scared away any crook haha

  2. So happy that you managed to pull through this monster storm. So many are suffering but I'm glad you aren't among them.

  3. Well I'm glad that you and the Mrs. were able to stay safe Al. I'd say you should have considered tinned food but without heat or water it's not like you would have been able to cook it.

  4. So glad you're safe. We were very lucky...didn't even lose power. I'm sorry for the people in NY and NJ.

  5. I'm glad you're safe, and blackouts make you cherish electricity when you lose it. I have gas heat for my water, so that's my only luxury during power outages.

    1. I had gas, too. Kept me warm at night. Although Mrs. Penwasser got downright cranky about it.

  6. Glad you're all alright... and showered.

  7. You got hit by it too? Goddam storm went everywhere. Sorry about the spoiled food - I wonder if the raccoons would eat it?

    1. The raccoons demanded clean silverware and freshly laundered table linen. Cheeky little bastards.

  8. I am so glad that you're alright Al and I agree so much with your sentiments about others in the East Coast, especially those who have lost everything, hopefully America makes as quick a recovery as possible. Damn you for this beautiful line though:

""Guess Which Food Has Spoiled." The joke was on us, though-it ALL spoiled."

That made me howl with laughter and then feel REALLY BAD haha, hopefully you guys get stocked up soon and everything's okay.

    1. Plus, now there's a mysterious stench in the house. I took a shower and threw away the bad food, so I don't know...
But, I'm giving the dog the stink eye.

  9. Gluttonous feast in the beginning and then it's down to beans.
    Why always beans?
    Glad to hear you're alright.

    1. Because beans are good for your heart.
At least that's what they said in junior high.

  10. I'm also glad that you and your family are doing well. Hope you find where the "mysterious stench" is coming from. Julie

  11. i bet you guys were never so happy to feel the hot water coming from your shower head! living without power is weird! when we got hit with the tornados in tn last year, we lost power for over 24 hrs and i felt like i'd fallen back in time 100 years.

    1. We are and thank goodness for that. I have blogging to do. Oh yeah. And a shower wasn't a bad idea, either.
