Debella’s ‘Blessing of the Balls’ Returns

March 28, 2011
Bala Cynwyd, PA (March 28, 2011): If success is measured by results, it’s safe to say that John DeBella’s annual Blessing of the Balls has been quite successful. In 2008, three local religious leaders stood in front of the Mike Schmidt statue and blessed the balls that the Philadelphia Phillies were going to use on Opening Day. The Phillies went on to win the World Series. They blessed the balls again in 2009, and the Phillies went to the World Series for a second consecutive year, but ultimately lost to the New York Yankees. The results of last year’s Blessing weren’t exactly what Phillies fans were hoping for, but DeBella and the religious leaders that joined him in 2008 will once again set up in the outdoor patio area of McFaddens’ at Citizen’s Bank Park on April 1 and aim to bring back the inspiration that propelled the team through their championship season.
I swear, sometimes you don't need to write a single word.  The story speaks for itself.

  1. Funny post - you're right sometimes the story just speaks for itself!

  2. Yes it does. And if it doesn't you most surely will. (And that's a good thing.)

  3. Well, somebody had to bless them!

  4. Blessing of the balls huh? I wish they would have blessed my balls before I had my vasectomy.

  5. Yep, those were some happy ballplayers.
